Building Solutions

For Tricky Projects

Our Story

Tricky can be anything from small jobs to large project management. Everyone has a list of projects they would like to get done. Not everyone has the time, skills or confidence to know where to start.

Tricks Of The Trade exists to help people work through those tricky, half-defined problems - the ones that don’t fit neatly into a single trade or contractor - and turn them into clear, practical solutions. This is about good thinking, not rushing. Advice you can trust, and work done properly.

Building Solutions For Tricky Projects

Some projects need tools. Some need experience. Most projects need someone who can see the whole picture. That’s where Tricks Of The Trade comes in. That means:

· helping you figure out what to do

· working out how to do it

· then either doing it, coordinating it, or helping you decide the best next step

How it’s Different?

Most trades focus on one thing. Most advice stops at recommendations. Tricks Of The Trade sits in between.

· trade-qualified electrical background

· 30 years of building operations and corporate project management experience

· strong customer service mindset

· practical, hands-on capability

· clear communication and sound judgment

You’re not just getting someone to “do a job” - you’re getting someone who listens, thinks, and involves you in the solution.

The Process

Start by listening.

Not rushing.
Not upselling.
Not assuming there’s only one right answer.

Take the time to understand: -

  • the challenge

  • what outcome you want

  • what options make sense for your space, time, and budget

Who It’s For

Tricks Of The Trade is for people who:

  • feel overwhelmed by a growing to-do list

  • don’t know where to start

  • want to understand all of the options

  • value good advice and clear thinking

  • want one trusted person instead of five disconnected contractors

Types of projects

Tricky projects often cut across multiple areas. For example:

  • Renovation project management (small and large)

  • Electrical systems and lighting

  • Physical / digital locks & security

  • Smart home systems and solar

  • Wireless devices & installation

  • WiFi & connectivity

  • Workstation & home office IT set up

  • Storage solutions in challenging spaces including for bicycles & surfboards

  • General tricky repairs that need innovative solutions

  • Project & contractor management

Principles

Good advice is worth paying for. Work on an hourly basis - you’re paying for experience and network, not shortcuts.

  • no race to the bottom
Don’t compete on price, compete on thinking.

  • do it once, do it properly
    Safety, quality, and longevity matter.

  • people over transactions
Involve clients in decisions and respect different outcomes.

  • social impact and giving back matters.
